Working for Tall Stories
Guides
Tall Stories events are always guided on a ratio
of 10 participants to 1 guide. On each of these events
we use a mixture of local and British guides. Some
times the British guides lead groups and sometimes
they are “back stops”, so help out as
an extra pair of hands. We expect all Tall Stories
personnel to “muck in” with everything
and play a meaningful, hands-on, role in any event.
To become a Tall Stories guide you need to be:
- Experienced working with and leading groups of
people.
- Able to deal with a crisis with a level head and
think round problems
- 1st aid qualified
- Physically fit with a proven history of doing
consecutive days of challenging exercise
And have:
- Excellent organisational skills
- Preferably a knowledge of a European language
– mostly French, Spanish, German and Italian.
- If you would like to get involved in trekking
events you should preferably have a ML.
- If you would like to get involved in biking events
you should have good mechanical knowledge and be
able to fix most mechanical problems on your own.
- If you would like to get involved in skiing events
you should be able to ski black runs.
Unlike many of our competitors, we pay all of our
guides, plus expenses, for every trip.
If you would like to join our database of guides,
please send
us a CV and covering letter, highlighting your
relevant experience, with an attached photograph,
and we will forward you a list of events identifying
who we need and with what particular skills.
Medics
We also take medics on all of our events, bar ski
events. Sometimes we need medics who can actually
participate in the event (trekkers or cyclists) but
still handle a medical emergency if one arises. Other
times we need medics who are happy to be in the support
vehicle which trails the group. The minimum standard
of medic we take is an EMT but we are happier still
with paramedics, nurses and doctors!
To become a Tall Stories event medic you need to
be:
- Experienced working in remote areas with little
support or back up
- Experienced working with groups of people
- Able to deal with a crisis with a level head and
think round problems
- Physically fit and with a proven history of doing
consecutive days of challenging exercise if you
are going to participate in the event
- A knowledge of a European language – mostly
French, Spanish, German and Italian-will always
be handy.

relevant experience, with an attached photograph,
