Charity FAQs

How should I choose the challenge?

Your choice of challenge is going to depend on who your target market is and how many people you may be able to recruit. If your numbers are low (under 10), you should consider an Open Event. For higher numbers you will need to decide what your target market will be inspired by – is it young men you want to attract – then consider a mountain biking event. Is it older supporters you want to offer an experience to – then a low level trek may be appropriate. If it is a corporate group, they are most likely to have a mixed crowd – why not choose a multi-activity event.

How much lead time to organise, recruit and fundraise for an event?

Your timing will depend on your market. Most events need planning of approximately a year to allow you time to recruit and participants time to fund raise. If however you have got a corporate group interested they may have much shorter lead times.

How do I work out targets and costs?

We'll help you with these, but here's an example;

Our costs always work on a sliding scale so the more people you take on an event, the less you pay per person. A typical European event will cost about £500 per head, excluding flights. The non-refundable registration amount you charge the participant is usually about £100 - £200 but you should set this so it covers the costs required of you by us at this stage.

We require a deposit per capita for the land price and the flight deposit. Most charities request a sponsorship level of about £1200-£1400 for a weekend event. Depending on the flight price, and adding in the registration fee, this will give you a return of about £700 per person. If you had 20-30 people on the event you will raise £14000 - £21000, net.

What about marketing the challenge and recruitment?

Having decided on your event and your pricing, and received your supporting material from us (training sheets, kit list, self-assessment forms, etc) you can now plan your recruitment drive vs your budget. This will involve producing promotional literature, emailings, etc. As our events are shorter and the amount the participants need to raise is less, you can still take late registrations – time and again, charities find that the right event will attract participants willing to pay for our events out of their own pockets.

How do you help support our participants?

We can help you support your participants by providing you with full and detailed itineraries including photographs, kit lists, information days/evenings, etc. We will also provide a link from our website to yours to direct people who come to our site on to yours. We will feature your event in our Upcoming Events section. We will display your logo on our website. We are always happy to work directly with participants with any logistical questions they have and questions on insurance and flight queries.

We will also help your participants reach the fitness level they need to achieve via training schedules and our Self Assessment sheets.

On every event our Tall Stories on the ground organisers will make sure that every participant is well taken care of from start to finish and that the event runs smoothly.
