Charity Challenges - How does
it work?
It's very simple;
Step 1 - Choose your Charity Challenge.
Some people choose an event because
it raises money for a particular cause that's close
to their heart. Some choose an event because that's
the challenge they want to face. Others may choose
what is called an "open event" where you
can choose the charity you want to receive your sponsorship.
For most events you'll need to contact the charity,
sign up and pay your registration fee. For open events
contact
us. See our upcoming
events page for challenges with spaces available.
Most charities request an amount to be paid as a
registration fee (around £100-£200) when
you sign up. This will be non refundable and will
cover some of the cost the charity will incur at this
stage.
Step 2 - Get Fundraising
You will then need to commit to raise a certain minimum
amount in sponsorship (around £1000-£1500)
in order to participate in the event. This is only
a minimum amount and there is no maximum.
There are lots of different ways of raising
sponsorship and your charity will give you plenty
of help, advice and support to reach your target.
Some people even pay the whole amount themselves just
to take part in what can be the personal challenge
of a lifetime.
Step 3 - Get Training
Most people will benefit from doing at least some
training
and preparation.
For some this will involve a total change of lifestyle!
For others this might just be a good excuse for doing
more of an activity they already enjoy such as hill
walking, cycling or going to the gym. Whichever it
is, your charity and Tall Stories will be there to
help and support you.
For trek challenges take a look at our Trekking Self
Assessment factsheet in the downloads
area. You can read this sheet and judge which
level you are at! We ask that you are at fitness level
three or above by the time of the trek.
Step 4 - Get Going
You've signed up, raised your sponsorship and done
some training. What now?
Your sponsorship covers travel from the UK, accommodation
and meals* so you just need to turn up and take part
in what, for many, is the challenge of a lifetime!
GOOD LUCK!
(But before you do please make sure you've got the
right travel
insurance and packed
the right kit!)

* Please check your particular event for details.
Travel is normally included from one UK departure
point, e.g. an airport or coach pick-up but can change
depending on the event.
