Celebrating its 12th year, this amazing Ski and Board Marathon heads to the Italian slopes of the Milky Way (the largest ski area in Italy) and to the world-class Olympic runs from 2006.
In the 12 years that Scope has organised the White Peaks Marathon, over 1,000 people have taken part and a phenomenal £1.75 million has been raised.
We are looking to attract 65 skiers and boarders onto the 2010 Challenge, and we aim to raise over £250,000 from the event. This unique event is the UK's largest charity ski and board challenge.
The Milky Way
The Milky Way is made up of 5 separate ski regions which are all interlinked. Sansicario, which is where we will be based, Sauze d’Oulx, Sestriere, Cesana Claviere and, lastly, in France, Montgenevre. Altogether they give you 440kms of linked skiing.
The Milky Way ski area was host to the Winter Olympics in 2006. In total there were eight competition sites of which Bardonecchia, Cesana-Pariol, Cesana-San Sicario, Sauze d'Oulx, and Sestriere will be used by us in 2009. Of the seven sports competed in (Biathlon, Bobsleigh, Curling, Ice Hockey, Luge, Skating), Skiing is the only one which is important for us.
